Apple Soup Bowl and Platter. Hard to say what I was thinking when I made this one up. You might guess food, but the big void along one side of the cup is sure going to make for messy eating. On top of that, the wood was green and slightly spalted, and when I turned it it started to deform while it was on the lathe; at that point I gave up on the idea of perfectly smooth surfaces. But I love the form, and I was pleased that I was able to keep the piece from flying apart.
The piece came from the elbow of a limb, which is to say a 90 degree turn in the limb. It has some fascinating grain as a result.
2 " tall x 8 1/4" diameter. NFS.
