Lyptus Platter. Intrigued by its color and grain pattern and knowing nothing of its turning properties, I bought an entire board of lyptus. It turned out to be both beautiful and a huge pain to turn. The wood is very hard and doesn't lend itself to a lot of detailing. So the form here is simple, and I thought needed something for contrast. So, I charred the rim to provide contrast with the interior. The result is a great conversation piece made from a sustainably harvested tropical hardwood. Finished with Danish oil.
