Maple & Turquoise Bowl. This is intended to be a utilitarian bowl, possibly destined to hold fruit or nuts. I shipped a load of maple back from a trip to Virginia, and the tree was cut in early March before it had leafed out. So, I think this is red maple, but I'm not positive. There are some small clusters of burl, and as you can see in the photos the wood has a pleasant reddish-pink hue.
The bowl blank had a whole all the way through the bottom which would have ruined its future as a cereal bowl. I inlaid the whole with turquoise and brass filings. The inlay is visible both from the outside (pictured above) and from the inside. A nice surprise as you near the end of your morning cereal... .
Finished with Danish oil.
