Mesquite Winged Bowl. I've turned other winged forms but this is the first that visibly incorporates the outline of the log. I enjoy leaving clues to the origin of the pieces that I turn--a design element that doesn't get reflected in many of my pieces. The mesquite was green when I turned and finished the bowl. It has proven to be remarkable stable wood, and hasn't moved noticeably as the wood has dried. Finished with my tung and orange oil formula, buffed and waxed. This bowl would make an excellent conversation piece, but can also be put into practical service for nuts or other treats.

The bowl itself (not including the wings) is about 8" diameter by roughly 4" tall.
