Not All It's Cracked Up To Be. Made for a themed show which required mixing two or more media. This started with a hollow form made from Kentucky coffee tree. The blank had cracks in it that did not improve over time. Rather than toss the blank out, I decided to use the cracks as design opportunities and to explore the use of texturing paint I purchased a while back. In the finished piece the cracks are stitched with leather thongs. I applied the texturing paint to simulate a clay pot, and then decided the piece needed some scorch marks as one would expect to see on a wood-fired piece. In this case, the scorch marks are applied with acrylic paint and an air brush. You can look in the opening and see wood grain, but I have joked that this piece's mother wouldn't recognize it!
About 10" and 5". Currently at the Confluence Gallery in Twisp, WA.
