Winged
Bowl. I've been working on winged bowls lately as an interesting challenge. This one is turned from a piece of heart pine. The outside of the original blank was weathered, and I left the two outside edges with their original weathered patina. The lip of the bowl chipped during turning, and I decided that the piece then needed to show its contents spilling forth, as would happen if you'd set the bowl down with something held inside. To accomplish this effect, I used pyrography techniques to show an elevation level in the bowl, and then the contents spilling down the length of the elongated surface.Finished in Danish oil, this is a decorative piece, though it could certainly hold change or jewelry on a dresser top.
